San Francisco RotaractFundraising for: Slum Soccer World Cup

San Francisco Rotaract Club is a community service organization for young professionals which focuses on local service, international understanding, professional development, and leadership. One way in which we support non-profits is through fundraising for impactful causes. The new 2012-13 SF Rotaract Board took charge in July 2012 and hoped to diversify the club’s international focus. After performing research, we decided, after a recommendation from our International Service Chair Nico Cerutti (featured in the video) that Slum Soccer was a cause we wanted to help because of its overwhelmingly positive impact on India’s youth.
Slum Soccer operates in India and tackles the issue of homelessness (specifically among children) through the medium of soccer. Soccer not only empowers them and enhances their physical, social, and communication skills, but it also prevents them from falling into some of the all too frequent paths of drugs, alcohol, and sex trade. Slum Soccer tournaments are organized in numerous states across India and the best players are selected to compete in the Homeless World Cup. In addition to the tournaments, the organization provides health, environmental and educational workshops which include hygiene, nutrition, AIDS awareness, skill training and gender equality.
The results so far have been tremendous in bringing a positive influence to the lives of nearly 70,000 men, women and children in over 63 districts all around India. In fact, the founder of this organization recently received the “2012 Reliance Real Hero Award’ from the Reliance Foundation, hosted by CNN and IBN.
We hope that you too will see the positive impact of this organization and consider donating to this cause.
100% of your donations will go to Slum Soccer.
